Battery Acid Adjustments

There are several reasons IBP is required to perform acid adjustments on industrial batteries at one of our six facilities, but below are the two primary reasons for this practice.

Controlled Environment IBP performs all acid adjustment processes in accordance with the East Penn Manufacturing Service Manual using a concentration of 1.400 specific gravity. This process, done correctly , entails performing slow constant current charging as well as deep discharge cycling in order to drive the sulfate from the plates. Once the specific gravities of each cell have stabilized and all of the sulfate has been absorbed back into the electrolyte, only then can we begin adding new acid. This process is the only way to truly determine how much new acid is going to be needed to achieve OEM specified specific gravity. Safety Sulfuric acid is considered a hazardous material, much like waste water generated during a battery wash/PM. In order to remain compliant with DOT and EPA regulations, sulfuric acid must be hauled with a HAZMAT certified employee and a truck with placards.
